I plan to include support for playing various videos in a new app (MPG, AVI, MP4, WMP, MKV). In the past I used the Windows Media player control but am concerned about doing this now as I want to maintain compatibility with 7.0 as well has newer versions of Windows.
To my understanding I have three 'native' options
1. Media Player
2. Media Player Class
3. Direct X
I can likely work out the compatibility issues between 7 and higher versions with Media player but am curious is anyone has any thoughts of maybe using DirectX. I have not really used it much and not in several years.
Another interesting option is using VLC has anyone else done this?
I searched for third-party controls and found a few but none that really stood out, does anyone use a 3rd party video player?
I will likely end up using Media Player or VLC but wanted to see what was possible before committing as this is a large project.
